Ischemic heart disease. Overview of risk factors and practical recommendations to reduce them

Abstract

According to the world health organization, ischemic heart disease is the primary cause of death in the world and claims over 15 million lives in the world yearly. Because of society aging the prevalence of this disease is more frequent. Lithuania is not an exception. Lithuania in Europe is one of the leading nations in both new cases of ischemic heart disease and deaths related to it. This disease is multietiological, having many risk factors. That’s why it is important for the primary and secondary care specialists to be acquainted with these factors and try to reduce them by executing practical recommendations, which European Society of Cardiology and American College of Cardiology have to offer. In this article we will go through the main risk factors of this disease and review the practical recommendations to reduce them.
