Treatment of Condylomata Acuminata: a literature analysis

Abstract

Condylomata acuminata (CA) – are skin and mucosal lesions caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) also referred as anogenital warts. They occur in the form of papules, plaques in external genitals and anus area. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in Europe and in the world, with young people being most affected.  The highest prevalence is in 20-24 years old female and 25 – 29 years old in men’s age groups. Patients feel ashamed, their quality of life diminishes, and their self-esteem decreases, so it is important to start effective treatment on time. Anogenital warts are treated by a variety of physicians – general practitioners, dermatologists, obstetricians – gynecologists, urologists, so the article provides a comprehensive literature analysis of the disease and discusses possible treatment approaches to improve care for patients with this problem. Aim: To select and analyze expert recommendations for the treatment of anogenital warts and to review possible treatment methods for them. Methods: the review of the literature was conducted using the „PubMed“ medical database, selecting publications investigating treatment recommendations for anogenital warts. Conclusions: After analysis of the literature, possible treatments and algorithms for the treatment of anogenital warts are presented, which will help doctors of different fields to choose the most appropriate treatment method.
